Abena Holben’s path began with a deep appreciation for the complexities of human experiences, nurtured by her academic pursuits in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Malone University and her foundational studies in Applied Sciences and International Business. Additionally, Abena is an INELDA-trained Death Doula, a specialty pursued following a unique personal story that catapulted her into the mental health space.

Driven by a commitment to holistic care, Abena founded Rootedlife, a company that embodies her unique approach to therapy through the “Root to 3” formula: Accepted, Loved, and Empowered. This formula encapsulates her therapeutic philosophy, aimed at guiding clients through a journey of healing and self-discovery.

"Acceptance allows us to honor our truths, love rebuilds our foundations, and empowerment gives us the strength to move forward."

In her practice, Abena emphasizes the importance of acceptance—helping clients confront and acknowledge the realities of their experiences without judgment. By reframing these narratives with compassion and insight, she fosters an environment of trust and safety where healing can begin.

Central to Abena’s approach is the concept of being loved—an unconditional positive regard that forms the foundation of her therapeutic relationships. Through this nurturing environment, clients are encouraged to explore their stories, rebuild their sense of self, and develop resilience.

Empowerment is the final pillar of Abena’s methodology, where she helps clients recognize their strengths and capabilities.By empowering individuals to harness their inner resources, she equips them with the tools to navigate challenges and cultivate a sense of agency in their lives.

Abena’s experience spans treating depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, Bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions. As a Death Doula, she provides opportunities for an empowering experience through the end-of-life process for individuals and their loved ones. Through techniques such as legacy forming, focused intuitive bedside presence, and grief support, Abena assists in making deeper meaning of the end-of-life process.

With a background in body-based interventions such as physical rehabilitation and yoga, Abena incorporates somatic techniques to assist with nervous system regulation and trauma processing. These techniques help awaken clients’ empowerment, enabling them to better manage the next phase of their lives.

Through Rootedlife, Abena Holben continues to make a meaningful impact, offering a pathway toward acceptance, love, and empowerment for those seeking to rewrite their stories and reclaim their lives. Her journey as a psychotherapist is not just a profession but a calling—an unwavering commitment to helping others discover their inner strength and resilience.
